Way back in 1977 a cartoon series aired for 2 seasons. It lasted only 24 episodes but Laff-A-Lympics was the best cross over cartoon that has ever aired! The Scooby Doobies, Yogi Yahooeys and Really Rottens compete for the Laff-a-lympics title. The various Hanna Barbera characters competed in their own version of the Olympic Games. 45 of their classic cartoon characters were featured on this show competing for the gold medal.
This show was a perfect show for the time. The main objective for each team was to score the highest number of points to earn the gold medal. The majority of events had a scoring process of 25 points for the winner, 15 for second, and 10 for third. There were occasional 50-point bonus events which could help a team get back into the competition or pull them away. Though some events were similar to real-life Olympic events, others were pretty offbeat and quite unusual, which likely means they could only be done in cartoons like this one.
Now, I admit, I didn't watch this show until the mid 80's, because I wasn't born until 1978, but it was always my favorite. I would watch it like it was the real Olympics! You can watch Laff-A-Lympics on MeTV Toons, Tubi, and Prime Video. Some full episodes are also available on YouTube. Watch it!
