Survivor - 49 Seasons Later

 

It's hard to imagine that Survivor first came out May 31, 2000. What started as just a competition reality tv show has grown into years and years of a wonderful series. In fact I was 22 years old when it first came out. And I didn't start watching it until I was 42 in 2020 when COVID first hit the scene. With COVID I had every other week "working from home" for almost 5 months. So I had plenty of extra time to turn on the TV and find shows to watch. The problem was I ran out of new shows. So I came across Survivor. I gave it a watch and was hooked.  From there I went back and watched all the seasons I had missed over the years. Sure it took a little while, but I was hooked. And that means every Wednesday now when a new show comes on, I'm usually waiting by the TV. So with season 50 coming up in 2026 that made me think of what my favorite Survivor moments over the first 49 seasons were.

 Who were my favorite contestants?

Boston Rob Mariano

Boston Rob - Boston Rob, always with his Boston Red Sox hat has to be my favorite all time player on the show. He was on 6 seasons of the show (5 as a competitor) and won Season 22. The way he is able to get people to believe things that are true is always amazing. Plus he was good in all the challenges. Sure he doesn't have the most wins of any Survivor player. But in my book, he goes down as the best.

Parvati Shallow

Parvati Shallow - Parvati was a Survivor 4 times, winning her season on Micronesia. She was also great at getting people to believe certain things thru flirting and was another good one at challenges. Her social part of the game seemed to work really good for her. 

Tony Vlachos

Tony Vlachos - A 2 time winner, Tony was also another great one on show. He was fun to watch because he got into arguments, ran around looking for idols, backstabbed people, and was a constant liar.

Other notables include Sandra Diaz-Twine, Cirie Fields, Ozzie Lusth, Tyson Apostl and Jeremy Collins.

What was the best season?

Season 20 Heroes vs Villains - This had to be the best season. Great group of players and good drama all around. Sandra ended up winning.
